Jim Jensen was born in Astoria . After WWII he helped his mother run a small grocery store, he also worked for Bumble Bee Shipyard. He loved to hunt near Young’s Bay and the jetty areas. Around 1930 he won the “Chink”, the local Chinese lottery, and bought a new Browning shotgun with his winnings. Soon afterwards, while hunting with his new gun, he turned his skiff over in the river, thus losing his prize.

Jensen began carving in the early 1930’s. He carved many different styles, each rig change noticeably. He made hollow and solid decoys, some with painted, glass and tack eyes, some with snaky heads and miniatures.

Jim once found some old military rockets flares with parachutes and launched them across the bay lighting up the skies of Astoria .

Jim was hit by a car while crossing the street and spent the last 10 years of his life in a rest home. He was cremated and his ashes were spread in the jetty where he enjoyed hunting all his life.
